Field Trips

STEM/STEAM Friday Field Trips — North Shore · March – June 2026

Plan a School Day of Discovery

Turn your visit into an adventure in North Vancouver’s vibrant Shipyards District. Alongside our engaging STEAM morning workshops and afternoon Discovery Adventures, your class can explore the Polygon Gallery, Perform Art Studios, Inuit Gallery, or enjoy the Splash Park (May – September), or lace up for skating at The Shipyards Rink (December – March).

Access2Innovate is a North Vancouver educational non-profit; our mandate is to help reduce barriers to quality Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) education for children, youth, and adults.

A2I Workshop Topics by Grade

Grades K–1

  • Pollinators and Creative Design — A fun and creative workshop where students explore the role of pollinators in nature. They observe how plants and pollinators interact, then use the design process to create pollinator costumes for our Dash robots and program them to “visit” flowers on our custom mat.
  • Life in Motion! — Students discover the life cycles of plants and animals by creating their own stop-motion animations, bringing life cycles to the screen while learning how living things grow and change.

Grades 2–3

  • Code the Salmon Journey! — Students explore the life cycle of Pacific salmon using block coding and Dash robots to model each stage of the salmon’s journey from river to ocean and back.
  • Eco-Engineers: Build a Water Filter — Students become eco-engineers by designing and testing their own water filters, learning how clean water is created and why it matters for people and wildlife.

Grades 4–5

  • Eco-Tech Engineers — Students use block coding and robots to design technology solutions that help protect and improve the environment.
  • Build & Roll: Cart-Bot Challenge — Students engineer and test a rolling cart-robot while learning how motors, structure, and design work together.

Grades 6–7

  • Potato Bot Challenge — Students build a waving potato-shaped robot while learning how microcontrollers, circuits, and loops work to control their creation.
  • DIY Digital Music Player — Students create their own MP3 player by combining coding, electronics, and audio technology to understand how digital sound works.
